The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed labeling nine PFAS chemicals as hazardous. PFAS are known as “forever chemicals” due to their long-lasting effects on the environment and health. They are found in everyday items and drinking water, and are present in the blood of the majority of the population. The proposed change would facilitate the government’s efforts to address PFAS pollution. Last year, the EPA introduced the first national drinking water standard for these chemicals. The EPA aims to strengthen its ability to clean up contamination, hold polluters accountable, and protect public health.
